Bank statement to QuickBooks

Import a PDF bank statement into QuickBooks

QuickBooks Online only accepts CSV, QBO or OFX bank files. Convert the PDF statement into a 3-column QuickBooks CSV (Date, Description, Amount).

  • Your PDF stays on your device. The browser reads the file without uploading it.
  • Check the running balance. If a row doesn't add up, it gets flagged, so you know exactly where to look.
  • Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero. Dates come out in the format your software expects.

How it works

Review before you export

  1. Drop the PDF

Download a text-based PDF from your online banking and choose it above.

  2. Check the ledger

Review the extracted dates, descriptions and amounts. Where a running balance is available, the converter flags differences.

  3. Export

Download an Excel workbook or a CSV ready for QuickBooks Online, Xero, Google Sheets or your tax software.

Why bookkeepers use it

Built for people who reconcile for a living

Private by design

The converter reads your PDF on this device with PDF.js. Your statement is not uploaded to our servers.

A balance check on every row

Each transaction is added to the previous balance and compared with the balance printed on the statement. Green means it matches. Red rows show you exactly where to look.

Tested with 13 synthetic layouts

Our tests cover US, UK, Australian, European, Brazilian and Chinese formats. These are made-up statements, not certification for every bank listed below.

FAQ

Questions

Is it safe to convert my bank statement here?

Yes. The PDF is opened by your own browser and the transactions are extracted on your device. The file is never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see your account numbers or balances.

Which banks are supported?

Our tests cover US, UK, Australian, European, Brazilian and Chinese formats. These are made-up statements, not certification for every bank listed below.

How do I know the conversion is correct?

Wherever the statement prints a running balance, Sparrow Tools adds each transaction to the previous balance and compares the result with the printed figure. Matching rows get a green tick. Any row that does not match is highlighted in red so you can fix it in the table before exporting.

Does it work with scanned statements?

Not yet. Scanned or photographed statements are images without a text layer. Download the statement again from your online banking as a PDF and that file will convert.

Can I import the result into QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. Use the QuickBooks CSV export for QuickBooks Online bank uploads (Date, Description, Amount) and the Xero CSV export for Xero's statement import. Choose the date format your software expects before downloading.

What about password-protected PDFs?

You will be asked for the password. It is used only to open the file in your browser and is not stored or sent anywhere.

Which date and number formats are understood?

US (03/31/2024), UK and Australian (31/03/2024, 31 Mar 24), ISO (2024-03-31), European (31.03.2024 with 1.234,56 amounts), plus CR/DR suffixes, minus signs, trailing minus signs and brackets for negative amounts.

How do I request a refund?

Email [email protected] with your order reference and what went wrong. We will review your request. Do not attach your bank statement.

How do I cancel Pro?

Use the subscription management link in your purchase email, or email [email protected] for help.
