Bank reconciliation

Match your bank statement to your books, in your browser

Drop the bank statement (PDF straight from online banking, or CSV) and the bank-account export from QuickBooks, Xero or a spreadsheet. You get what matched, what's missing on each side, and the likely typos — before month-end gets late.

1 · Bank statement

PDF from online banking, or a CSV / Excel download.

2 · Your books

The bank account's register or transaction list exported as CSV or Excel.

Processed on this device. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. One-to-one matches. Same amount to the cent, dates within the window you choose. When several entries have the same amount, the closest date and the most similar description win.
  2. Batched deposits. One bank deposit that equals two or three entries in your books (a day's card takings, several invoices paid together) is matched as a group.
  3. Likely mistakes. Left-over items with the same amount but far-apart dates, and pairs whose difference is divisible by nine with the same digits (1,243 entered as 1,234) are pointed out for you to check.
  4. Signs sorted out for you. Ledger exports often show money in as a debit. The tool tries both directions and uses the one that lines up with the bank.

Questions

Is my data uploaded?

No. Both files are read by your browser. We only count anonymous events such as "a reconciliation was run" to see whether the tool is useful; no amounts, descriptions or file names leave your device.

Which bank PDFs work?

Statements downloaded from online banking that contain selectable text. Scans and photos don't work. If the PDF isn't read correctly, download the CSV from your bank instead, or convert the PDF first with our statement converter to check it.

What should the books file look like?

Any CSV or Excel export with a date column and either an amount column or separate debit and credit columns: a QuickBooks account register, a Xero account transactions report, or your own spreadsheet.

Does a zero difference mean my books are right?

No. It means the totals agree. Entries can still be posted to the wrong account or category; this tool only compares the bank against the bank account in your books.
